Google Vids · Artificial Intelligence · Video

Google Vids brings video creation into the Workspace ecosystem with a different approach from a traditional editor: combining collaboration, automation, and artificial intelligence so teams and professionals can produce audiovisual content directly within their work environment.

Creating a video within a company usually involves several stages: developing an idea, writing a script, gathering images, recording, editing, adding audio, and finally sharing the result.

Google aims to reduce some of that complexity with Google Vids, its video creation application integrated into Google Workspace.

The tool initially focused primarily on business and education, but during 2025 Google expanded its reach and introduced new capabilities powered by artificial intelligence.

The move is interesting not only because Google is making a stronger push into audiovisual creation, but because it proposes integrating video into the same collaborative ecosystem as tools such as Docs, Slides, and Drive.

What Is Google Vids?

Google Vids is a video creation and editing application developed as part of the Google Workspace ecosystem.

Designed specifically for corporate communication, Google Vids combines AI-assisted creation with projects, presentations, internal communication, and commercial content workflows.

It is designed especially for work-related content: training, product demonstrations, project updates, presentations, internal communication, and commercial content.

Google Vids is not simply about editing video. Its proposition is to incorporate audiovisual communication into teams’ everyday workflows.

Is Google Vids Free?

This question requires an important clarification.

In August 2025, Google announced that the basic Google Vids editor would be available to consumers at no cost. That version provided the fundamental video creation tools, but initially did not include all of Gemini’s generative capabilities.

Advanced artificial intelligence features, including certain tools powered by Veo, were associated with compatible Google Workspace plans and Google AI subscriptions.

Google later expanded free access to some Gemini features for users with Gmail accounts.

Therefore, simply saying that “Google Vids is free and includes all of its AI features” would be inaccurate. The level of access to these features depends on the account, plan, and capabilities Google has enabled.

How Does Google Vids Use Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence is involved in different parts of the creation process.

Rather than being limited to applying automatic effects, Google has integrated features designed to assist with everything from planning to the generation and editing of specific audiovisual elements.

Video Generation With Veo

Google incorporated capabilities powered by Veo, its family of generative video models, into Vids.

One of the features introduced allows users to turn a static image into a clip of approximately eight seconds, adding motion and generated audio.

This can be used, for example, to transform a product photograph or corporate image into a short audiovisual piece.

AI-Generated Avatars

Another feature allows users to write a script and select an artificial intelligence avatar to present it.

Google positions this capability especially for scenarios such as:

  • training;
  • demonstrations;
  • onboarding processes;
  • internal communication;
  • informational presentations.

The objective is to produce certain types of content without necessarily having to organize a recording with an on-camera presenter.

Transcript-Based Editing

Google Vids can also use transcripts to simplify certain editing tasks.

The system can detect and remove silences or filler words, reducing some of the manual work required to clean up a recording.

This type of text-based editing represents an increasingly common trend in audiovisual tools: editing what is being said to automatically modify what appears in the video.

AI-Generated Voices

AI-generated voices make it possible to add narration without requiring a traditional recording.

This can be useful for prototypes, internal videos, educational material, or content that needs to be produced and updated frequently.

AI Image Editing

Google has also integrated generative tools for modifying images used within projects.

These capabilities include actions such as replacing backgrounds or expanding an image so that it fits a composition more effectively.

Collaborative Video Within Google Workspace

One of the most significant differences offered by Google Vids is not necessarily an artificial intelligence feature.

It is collaboration.

Google has brought a logic similar to Docs, Sheets, and Slides into video: different members of a team can participate in developing a piece within a shared environment.

This can reduce file exchanges, duplicate versions, and workflows where every modification needs to be passed from one person to another.

For organizations already using Workspace, that integration may be more important than having another standalone video editor.

Does Google Vids Replace Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve or CapCut?

Not necessarily.

Google Vids is designed for a different type of production.

A professional editor such as Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve provides much more advanced control over editing, audio, color, effects, compositing, and delivery.

CapCut, meanwhile, is strongly oriented toward the rapid creation of content for digital platforms and social media.

Google Vids focuses primarily on simplifying audiovisual creation within business and collaborative environments.

For that reason, comparing them solely by the number of tools they offer can lead to the wrong conclusion. Each solution addresses different needs.

Not every production requires a professional editor, but not every professional production can be handled with a simplified tool.

What Types of Videos Make Sense for Google Vids?

The platform’s approach is particularly interesting for content that an organization needs to produce frequently and that does not necessarily require complex audiovisual production.

For example:

  • training videos;
  • employee onboarding;
  • project updates;
  • product demonstrations;
  • sales presentations;
  • internal communication;
  • tutorials;
  • explanatory material.

In these scenarios, production speed, ease of updating content, and collaboration may be more important than having advanced post-production controls.

More Than One Million Monthly Active Users

When Google announced the expansion of Vids in August 2025, it reported that the platform had already surpassed one million monthly active users.

The figure showed that there was interest in tools capable of reducing the technical barriers to creating audiovisual content in the workplace.

It also reveals a broader shift: video is no longer exclusively the responsibility of specialized departments.

Sales, human resources, training, marketing, and operations teams may all need to produce audiovisual content as part of their regular activities.

Artificial Intelligence Is Lowering the Technical Barrier to Video

For years, producing video meant learning specialized software or relying on professionals capable of using it.

Artificial intelligence is changing part of that relationship.

Generating a voice, cleaning up a recording, creating a clip from an image, or using an avatar can now require far less technical knowledge.

That does not mean professional audiovisual production is disappearing.

It means that more people can solve certain audiovisual communication needs on their own.

That is an important distinction.

What Does Google Vids Mean for Companies and Creators?

For companies, tools such as Google Vids can make it easier to produce operational content that might previously have been too slow or expensive to develop.

For audiovisual professionals, this evolution also signals where professional value is shifting.

If basic technical tasks become increasingly accessible, simply knowing how to use a program is no longer enough to differentiate yourself.

Judgment, storytelling, visual direction, strategy, and the ability to understand what an organization needs to communicate become even more important.

Artificial intelligence can simplify the tools. It cannot decide on its own what deserves to be communicated or why an audience should care.

Google Vids Shows Where Audiovisual Creation Is Heading

The integration of Vids into Google’s ecosystem reflects a transformation that goes far beyond a new application.

Video is beginning to become integrated into productivity tools in much the same way documents, presentations, and spreadsheets have been for years.

At the same time, artificial intelligence is reducing some of the technical steps required to produce it.

This could dramatically increase the amount of audiovisual content created by companies and professionals.

But producing more does not guarantee better communication.

The challenge will remain to use these tools with a clear purpose: understanding what we want to say, who we need to reach, and when video is actually the best way to communicate it.
